ICYMI: PhilHealth executive vice president and chief operating officer Arnel de Jesus says the claims 'have not yet been realized, and therefore no fund release to speak of.'

The embattled Philippine Health Insurance Corporation on Friday, September 4, belied claims that it had paid hospitals P600 million for denied claims under its amnesty program.

"The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation clarifies that there is no truth to the report that P600 million in amnesty have been paid out to hospitals for denied claims," PhilHealth executive vice president and chief operating officer Arnel de Jesus said in a statement.

De Jesus issued the statement after Surigao del Norte 2nd District Representative Robert Ace Barbers alleged in a House panel on Wednesday, September 2, that in a board approval dated May 14, the state health insurer approved the grant of P600 million to hospitals with previously rejected claims from 2011 to 2019.

According to Barbers,"in an unexplainable sudden turn of events," PARD in May 2020 reversed its decision and granted its version of an"amnesty" by paying all these hospitals. In his statement on Friday, De Jesus said the claims"have not yet been realized, and therefore no fund release to speak of." "PhilHealth has committed to provide Congress with the documents pertinent to this matter to completely shed light on the issue. The agency defers to their good judgment to see that no such amount has been paid out yet," De Jesus added.
