Senior citizens and select immunocompromised individuals can get their extra COVID-19 vaccine shot starting Monday, the Health department says. But some mayors doubt if the Monday rollout is doable, as they have just been informed about it on Sunday.

Two more groups classified as high-risk for COVID-19 can get their extra vaccine shot starting Monday, Nov. 22, the Department of Health announced.

The DOH on Sunday night said it will begin the first phase of the rollout of boosters or additional doses for senior citizens and immunocompromised individuals, which are identified as priority groups A2 and A3, respectively. Booster shots are given to people whose immunity has gone down over time after full vaccination. Meanwhile, an additional dose is for individuals -- usually those immunocompromised -- who never reached the ideal immune response level.

But not all members of the A3 group will be covered in the first phase of the rollout, as the department noted only the following persons will be eligible for now:- Patients under immunosuppressive treatmentsIt added that vaccine recipients will be given the option to choose whether to get the same brand as their first two shots , depending on the availability in the vaccination site.
