The Philippines got a big break after winning over Uganda via forfeiture, 7-0, Sunday, Oct. 22, that kept it in the run for a place in the super round of the U15 Women’s Softball World Cup in Tokyo, Japan.
The triumph, which was due to Uganda pulling out of the competition, soothed the Cebuana Lhuillier-bankrolled and Philippine Airlines-backed Blu Girls’ 20-0 defeat to powerhouse United States of America early in the day.The country edged Czechia, the other name for the Czech Republic, 3-2, the day before that launched its medal bid.
“Our young athletes have shown remarkable determination and have proven that they have what it takes to bring this home,” said Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines president Jean Henri Lhuillier. “They only need to put in the work and plan accordingly so they can beat the other formidable foes they will still be facing,” he added.
For the Filipinas to stay in the hunt, they would need to beat the Puerto Ricans Monday, Oct. 23, and the Brazilians Tuesday, Oct 24.
