Former Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario Del Rosario criticizes China for supposedly delaying the release of a code of conduct in the South China Sea.
— The country should implement a multilateral approach in resolving its dispute with China over the South China Sea, former Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario said Tuesday, noting that the Philippines has"no chance" of winning if it continues to work bilaterally with the Asian giant.
The former Secretary was referring to the 2016 decision of the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague, which invalidated China's claims to virtually the entire South China Sea. The sea encompasses vital sealanes for global trade and are believed to be rich in oil and gas deposits.
China, Del Rosario added, is"just too powerful, too influential, and too much of a bully" to work with. Instead, the government should work with other democratic countries that follow a"rules-based" order, Del Rosario added.
