The Philippines is ready should the World Health Organization (WHO) declare the end to the global health emergency due to COVID-19, Department of Health (DOH) officer-in-charge Maria Rosario Vergeire said Tuesday.
Based on a Reuters report, the WHO Emergency Committee is set to meet on January 27 to consider whether COVID-19 still represents a global emergency, three years after the pandemic was declared.
“If and when the public health emergency will be lifted, we know that the virus will be here to stay.
The DOH had earlier recommended to the Office of the President a further extension of the state of calamity in the country due to COVID-19. adding that it was the "wrong mindset" with which to welcome the New Year.In the same press conference, Vergeire also allayed concerns about the potential effects of the bivalent COVID-19 jabs.
“Nakita natin sa almost two years of vaccinating our population, napakababa ng adverse reactions natin sa mga bakuna. It is just less than 1%,” Vergeire said.
