The Department of Migrant Workers says there must be provisions in bilateral labor agreements saying that countries that want to hire Filipino nurses must contribute to a scholarship fund for them.
MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Migrant Workers is considering a program where countries that want to hire Filipino nurses must contribute to a fund that would give scholarships to aspiring nurses.
Ople added, “Initially, we are thinking of making it part of the bilateral labor agreement, but we are not imposing any amount. So it will be,semi-voluntary [as well, because] we’re not pegging any amount. We just want to kick it off, and then later on, we can see the fair mechanism for [it].”
