Defining the News

A Shanghai-based company that manufactures medical devices has allegedly been breached by Manila-based “hacktivist” group DeathNote Hackers International.

According to the hacker group, the cyberattack launched on MicroPort Scientific Corporation is an act of protest and retaliation sparked by “the recent aggressive actions by the Chinese military against the Philippine Navy.” “DeathNote has made it clear that this attack is just the beginning and more to come,” the group stated in a forum post.

According to the group’s leader and ex-member of the GlobalSecurity Hackers ‘Klammer,’ all of their resources will now be focused on hitting Chinese companies with a barrage of cyberattacks. Meanwhile, a group member said that although Chinese companies are currently the primary attack targets, DeathNote Hackers still have Gov.PH platforms lined up. The MicroPort data breach involves the leak of files with personal identifiable information , employee emails, IT support logs, user info on the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol , hardcoded infra credentials, system files, and other office documents.
