The Philippine government has completed a harmonized, whole-of-government licensing and permitting flowchart for nuclear power plant projects as the country prepares to accept license applications this year.
The completion of the roadmap is intended to facilitate the safe and efficient operation of nuclear facilities by 2032. The government plans to present the validated flowchart to prospective investors alongside relevant policies and investment incentives.The 2032-2050 Philippine Energy Plan envisions a phased entry of nuclear energy into the national power mix. The plan targets an initial capacity of 1,200 MW by 2032, increasing to 2,400 MW by 2035 and reaching 4,800 MW by 2050. “By finalizing this harmonized licensing roadmap, we are sending a clear signal that the Philippines is preparing for nuclear energy with discipline and foresight,” Department of Energy Secretary Sharon Garin said. “Our commitment is straightforward: strong safety oversight, predictable processes and transparent public engagement, so that when proponents are ready to invest, government is ready to evaluate, regulate and deliver our 2032 target responsibly,” said Garin
