China has committed to continue working with the Philippines in battling the coronavirus pandemic, Malacañang said Thursday (June 11).
The message was relayed by Chinese President Xi Jinping in a letter to President Duterte during the recent 45th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between the two countries, according to Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque.
“Sinabi rin ni President Xi na he feels keenly for the Philippines amid the ongoing outbreak of COVID-19 and he’s willing to work together with the Philippines to overcome the pandemic,” he said. The Chinese leader also recognized the deepened trust and cooperation between the two countries and the productive results attained in the Belt and Road Initiative cooperation, according to Roque.
As of June 11, the number of the country’s cases of coronavirus disease has soared to 24,175, with 1,036 deaths. Amid the latest coronavirus data, the government is currently studying whether the quarantine restrictions in Metro Manila and other areas will be relaxed, extended or reverted to its previous strict lockdown.President Duterte also wrote to Xi on the occasion of the anniversary relations last June 9, saying he considers China a “close neighbor and valued friend.
