More than 4,000 to 6,000 individuals may be saved if the country's daily testing capacity for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) gets to 32,000, the National Task Force (NTF) Against COVID-19 bared on Tuesday.

More than 4,000 to 6,000 individuals may be saved if the country’s daily testing capacity for the coronavirus disease gets to 32,000, the National Task Force Against COVID-19 bared on Tuesday.

NTF Chief implementer Carlito Galvez Jr. said there is still much work that needs to be done even if the government is now capable of conducting an estimated 27,000 tests per day. “Na-break na po natin ang 26,900 na test natin noong July 17. Ibig sabihin nakakapag-test na tayo sa isang araw ng 27,000. Kapag nareach po natin ‘yung 32,000, ang mga sinasabi ng dalubhasa, we can save more than 4,000 to 6,000 deaths ,” he said during President Duterte’s public address aired on Tuesday.

Galvez said ramping up the government’s testing capability will help in the early detection of cases which could prevent it from turning into severe cases.Last month, NTF deputy chief implementer and testing czar Vince Dizon said the government was on track in hitting its target of 30,000 daily tests before the end of July.As of Monday, the Department of Health said 1,168,965 tests have already been conducted across the country. It yielded a positivity rate of 8.5 percent.

The DOH has recorded a total of 68,898 confirmed cases with 23,072 recoveries, and 1,835 deaths as of July 20.
