Castillo is appealing against his detention earlier in December over an attempt to illegally dissolve Congress
Castillo’s vice-president, Dina Boluarte,Castillo’s ousting and detention sparked a wave of protests by his supporters and those unhappy with the new government, which according to government data have left at least 22 dead.
