The Melbourne Cricket Club has approached Cricket Australia to host a historic Test series between India and Pakistan at the MCG – but the international schedule and political tensions threaten to stymie local aspirations.

“That India-Pakistan game was something else – the atmosphere, I’ve never felt anything like it,” Fox told radio station SEN. “The noise after every ball was phenomenal.

“It would be up to the two countries to agree, but if there was to be a Test between India and Pakistan on neutral territory, we would of course be interested in the opportunity to host it in Australia,” a CA spokesperson said. There is a three-week window in June-July next year, but that falls out of cricket season in Australia, when the AFL has rights to the MCG.

Friction between the two nations has increased under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government in India, affecting relations beyond the cricket and sporting fields.
