IPOH: A total of 158 new Chinese new village chiefs will be appointed on April 12, says Woo Kah Leong.
The Perak Chinese new villages committee chairman said the elected new village chiefs comprise representatives from MCA, DAP and PKR."While we have a total of 160 Chinese new villages, we have currently agreed on the appointment of 158 candidates," he said in a press conference at the state secretariat building here on Wednesday .
"Candidates for the remaining two villages, Kampung Baru Kuala Rui in Gerik and Kampung Baru Lintang, Sungai Siput, have yet to be nominated," he said. Woo said negotiations were attended by state MCA chairman Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon, state DAP secretary Wong Kah Woh and state PKR vice-chairman Tan Kar Hing.
"Since Barisan Nasional secured the Tapah parliamentary seat and the two state seats of Chenderiang and Ayer Kuning, it was decided that all 14 Chinese new village chiefs in Tapah will be from MCA.During the 15th General Election, MIC deputy president Datuk Seri M. Saravanan retained his Tapah parliamentary seat.
The Ayer Kuning state seat was won by Umno's Ishsam Shahruddin and Choong Shin Heng from MCA won the Chenderiang state seat."RM200 will be from the state while the remaining RM500 will be from the Local Government Development Ministry," he said.
