When Mayor John Tory announced his resignation last Friday, admitting that he’d had an inappropriate relationship with a junior staffer, it was one of the biggest political bombshells in Toronto’s recent history. Since the Rob Ford years, the city has become inured to its leaders being embroiled in scandals, but the news still came as a complete surprise. During his eight years in office, Tory was best known for being hard-working, pragmatic and bland.
