Penang deploys 5,776 policemen to ensure smooth state polls
Penang police assure that voting for tomorrow’s state elections will proceed smoothly, with 5,776 policemen being deployed. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, August 11, 2023.State contingent police headquarters media spokesman for the state polls, W. Pusphanathan said a total of 5,776 officers and members have been deployed to ensure safety of the public at 334 polling stations in the state.
“Voters are asked to plan their journey so as not to get stuck in traffic. We are well-prepared and ready to face the state polls,” he said at a press conference in George Town today. He said district police chiefs approved 1,649 permits throughout the election campaigning period. Pusphanathan, who is also the Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department head, said police have received 40 reports related to election matters and have opened 18 investigation papers, while one police inquiry was carried out from July 28 to August 11. – Bernama, August 11, 2023.
