TODAY'S EDITORIAL: Peace in Ukraine as elusive as ever
TEN months after Russian forces rolled into Ukraine, Vladimir Putin is saying he is open to peace talks to end what he initially billed as a 'special military operation' to save the country from 'nazification.'Putin had hoped to bring the Kyiv government to its knees in just a few weeks. What he didn't foresee was the fierce defense put up by the outgunned and outnumbered Ukrainian military. It was a fatal oversight.
'Addressing the Group of 20 summit in Bali, Indonesia, last month, Zelenskyy presented a 10-point peace deal that includes ensuring nuclear safety, food security, the creation of a special tribunal to try Russian war crimes, and a final peace pact with Moscow.Zelenskyy also made it clear that surrendering an inch of Ukrainian territory is not an option.
