The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) 7 has noted an increase in demand for illegal drugs during the holiday season , raising the possibility of increased supply regardless of the source. In an interview with media on November 28, 2024, Information Officer Leia Alcantara stated that individuals using illegal drugs are likely to increase their consumption as they anticipate higher income from bonuses during the holidays.
As a result, PDEA 7 is currently intensifying its anti-drug operations, collaborating with other government agencies and sharing intelligence to intercept the growing supply. Cebu is identified as a significant transshipment area for illegal drugs, serving both the Visayas region and Mindanao, making the situation more complex. The Central Visayas region is also a key market, making it a prime target for ongoing operations
