The Presidential Communications Office is collaborating with major technology companies such as Meta, Google, and Tiktok through their representatives in the Philippines to enhance its “digital defense.”
“We are starting with our digital defense today because it is very clear to us that misinformation and disinformation campaigns against government programs, and against the persons within the administration are increasingly prevalent,” Ridao said in a news release. Google Head of Government Affairs Yves Gonzales said YouTube has been trying to implement policies against spreading harmful medical information, stressing the platform’s commitment to providing a safe and inclusive environment for users.
In addition to addressing misinformation challenges, the conference shed light on tangible obstacles faced by government agencies, such as account hacking and the spread of fake news.
