Commander Jansen Benjamin, head of PCG-northern Negros Occidental, said that Coast Guard personnel during an inspection observed discoloration in waters surrounding MT Mary Queen of Charity 490GT at the Sagay feeder port.Benjamin said that a lorry truck was unloading molasses to the vessel when the spill was detected around 9 a.m. The PCG-Marine Environmental Protection Unit was directed to conduct water sampling, containment, and recovery operations.
Benjamin said that they will check for possible leaks from pipe connection or the ship to determine where the spill came from.
