THE legendary Robert “Sonny” Jaworski Sr. will be honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award during the 30th Philippine Basketball Association Press Corps Annual Awards Night on Tuesday at the Novotel Manila Araneta City.
The iconic playing-coach was widely regarded as the most popular player in the league whose looks and charisma combined with his playing ability and innate leadership endeared him to the basketball-loving Filipinos. Named Most Valuable Player in 1978, the tough playing guard won 13 championships both as player and coach from 1975 to 1997 and is the only player to play at 50 years old.
After a decorated career with Toyota, the Munich 1972 Olympian found his niche with Gilbey’s Gin where he established the “Never Say Die” mantra of the franchise.
