MANILA – The Rain or Shine Elasto Painters refused to drop a second consecutive overtime game, outlasting Columbian Dyip 88-86 in the 2019 PBA Commissioner's Cup on Sunday at the Batangas City Coliseum.
The Elasto Painters snapped a four-game losing streak against the Columbian franchise, and improved to 3-3 in the Commissioner's Cup. The Dyip, meanwhile, dropped their third straight game and now have a 1-6 win-loss record. Rain or Shine was coming off a 107-105 setback to NorthPort, which saw them squander a 25-point lead in the fourth quarter. This time around, they led 81-78 with 24 seconds to go in regulation, as Bowles could only make one of two free throws off a foul by Lester Prosper – thus leaving the door open for the Dyip.
The Dyip squandered a golden opportunity to take the lead when rookie guard CJ Perez drove strong to the hoop, only to muffle his lay-up. On the other end, he broke up a pass by Bowles to Javee Mocon inside the post, but the Elasto Painters retained possession with some four seconds to go.
