The QF144 flight was carrying 145 passengers on Wednesday afternoon and landed safely at Sydney Airport around 3.30pm.
QF144 on the tarmac at Sydney Airport after being met by emergency crews.Qantas said the flight had “experienced an issue with one of its engines”, but the initial mayday signal was downgraded to a “possible assistance needed” call mid-flight.
“While in-flight engine shutdowns are rare, and would naturally be concerning for passengers, our pilots are trained to manage them safely and aircraft are designed to fly for an extended period on one engine,” it said.Advertisement“But it balanced itself out and dropped the speed. Then the pilot came out probably 10 minutes later, walking down the aisle, looking out the windows – we knew something was wrong,” Mr Parker said.
