Over 3,000 trees were planted in Pasig City during a citywide tree planting activity, led by the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), to commemorate Earth Day on Saturday, April 22. | ManilaBulletin

Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto joined the tree planting program, along with City Councilor and Chairperson of the Committee on Environmental Protection and Human Ecology Kiko Rustia, and CENRO Chief Allendri Angeles.

Members of the Office of the City Mayor, CENRO, Solid Waste Management Office , personnel from the Maybunga Rainforest Park, and representatives from the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Pasig , and South Asialink Finance Corporation were also in attendance. Trees were planted in four areas in the city, namely at Parian Creek in the Poblacion Area; Ortigas Avenue Extension in Barangay Ugong; Maybunga Rainforest Park in Barangay Maybunga; and the Eastbank Road in Barangay Sta. Lucia.

The activity sought to contribute to reforestation efforts by repopulating trees and increasing green spaces in an urbanized city such as Pasig, as well as help mitigate the effects of global warming and other calamities. The trees were planted as part of the local government’s greening initiatives on sustainability and environmental conservation.
