MANILA, Philippines: Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas president Al Panlilio sees Philippine naturalized player prospect Bennie Boatwright as a 'bigger version of Justin Brownlee.'Coming off a lunch meeting with the 6-foot-10 sharp-shooting American on Saturday, the SBP top honcho took the time to get to know Boatwright better while being accompanied by Gilas coach Tim Cone, team manager Richard del Rosario and SBP executive director Erika Dy.
'Boatwright, who went undrafted in the NBA in 2019, played for the NBA G League squads Memphis Hustle and Fort Wayne Mad Ants, before seeing action for Libertadores De Queretaro league in Mexico.After the Mexican league, Boatwright came in last December to take the spot of Ivan Aska and went on to make his presence felt, averaging 30.3 points, 12 rebounds and 3.5 assists, while shooting 35.1 percent from three-point zone, numbers that caught the fancy of Cone.
