Any person or group planning to file an impeachment case against President Duterte should take a “reality check” to avoid embarrassment since such baseless complaint will likely not prosper, Malacañang said Friday.
Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo said while any Filipino is free to seek the President’s impeachment, Duterte has neither violated the Constitution nor committed any impeachable offense.
“The Palace is therefore confident that no impeachment complaint against PRRD would prosper. As a friendly advice, we suggest that these people first conduct a reality check to avoid embarrassment,” he added. He insisted though that an impeachment attempt against Duterte was “misplaced” and “absolutely baseless in fact and in law.” He said the President remains true to his constitutional mandate to serve and protect the people.
