Based on the latest report of OCTA Research group, the COVID-19 positivity rate in NCR has increased to over 5% as of Dec. 27, noting that the more transmissible Omicron variant could be causing the uptick and not the holiday celebrations. | onenewsph

Malacañang reminded local government executives on Wednesday, Dec. 29, to immediately enforce granular or small-scale lockdowns once they record clustering of COVID-19 cases in their respective areas, as it expressed concern over the slight increase in reported new infections in the recent week.

“So, now are rising. The people ask, ‘Why is it rising?’ Because we forget to practice social distancing,” he said. The reproduction number, which measures the number of people that a positive individual can infect, also increased to 1.03 from less than 1.0 last week. Concepcion said that instead of moving to Alert Level 1, what the private sector wants to see is sustainability.

If the number of COVID-19 cases is controlled, however, the justice secretary might support the idea to downgrade to Alert Level 1. Solante noted that while Delta remains to be the dominant variant of COVID-19 in the country, the possibility of “Omicron variant-driven surge” could not be discounted.
