THE Malacañang assured preparedness amid reports on the issuance of an arrest warrant against former President Rodrigo Duterte by the International Criminal Court .“We’ve heard that an arrest warrant has been issued by the International Criminal Court against former President Rodrigo Duterte for crimes against humanity,” Presidential Communications Office Ad Interim Secretary Jay Ruiz said in a statement.“The government is prepared for any eventuality,” he added.

In 2021, the ICC launched an investigation on the alleged crime against humanity of murder in the country related to the controversial drug war of Duterte from November 1, 2011 when he served as the mayor of Davao City to March 16, 2019, the time he ordered the withdrawal of the Philippine’s membership to the Rome Statute, which established the ICC.
