Malacañang is neither surprised nor bothered by the results of a survey showing the majority of Filipinos trusted the United States more than China and Russia.
Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo acknowledged that even as the Duterte administration has adopted an independent foreign policy, Filipinos have been “pro-American” for more than a century.
He said an information dissemination would be needed to foster understanding of the government’s “friends to all and enemies to none” policy. A survey conducted by Pulse Asia showed that China is the least trusted country by Filipinos amid a maritime dispute. The United States, on the other hand, is the most trusted country by Filipinos, followed by Japan, Australia, Canada, Malaysia, United Kingdom, Indonesia, and Vietnam.
