The anti-terrorism law has sufficient safeguards against abuse, including jail term for law enforcement personnel who will violate the rights of the accused, Malacañang said on Thursday.
Concerned individuals can also always run to the court to seek redress over any abuse of the implementation of the Ant-Terrorism Act of 2020, according to presidential spokesman Harry Roque.
“Huwag din po kayong matakot dahil sabi nga ni Presidente, sapat-sapat po ang ating safeguards laban sa pag-abuso ng batas ,” Roque said during a televised press briefing on Thursday. He said people can avail of legal remedies, such as the filing of writ of habeas corpus and writ of amparo before the court if they believe the pre-trial delation has no basis.
“Dahil iyong writ of habeas corpus at writ of amparo, dahil ito po ay mga issuances ng ating Kataas-taasang Hukuman, hindi po iyan suspendido bagama’t nagkaroon na po ng anti-terror law ,” Roque said.
