West Shore officers patrolling the Galloping Goose Trail came across a man and woman riding on a wheelchair belonging to Victoria General Hospital — and carrying a large amount of drugs
West Shore RCMP Bike Unit officers were patrolling the Galloping Goose Trail near Hospital Way Tuesday morning when they came across a man and woman riding on a wheelchair belonging to Victoria General Hospital.
Once they determined the wheelchair was stolen, the officers arrested the pair and searched them — and located a large quantity of drugs, including about 14 grams of suspected crack cocaine, unknown pills, drug-trafficking paraphernalia, a knife and a collapsible baton. Both had court-ordered conditions that they not possess any weapons and could be facing drug-trafficking charges.“This is exactly the sort of proactive drug and property crime enforcement that our Bike Patrol Unit was designed to address,” said Cpl. Don Gaven, officer in charge of the unit. “Our unit patrols the West Shore year-round rain or shine, keeping our trails and community safe.”
