Last spotted 505 kilometers northeast of Itbayat, Batanes, Betty was packing maximum winds of 110 kph and gustiness of up to 135 kph. As of Thursday morning, tropical cyclone wind signal no. 1 is still raised in Batanes, but PAGASA said it may be lifted by noon or afternoon.
“On the track forecast, Betty will leave the Philippine area of responsibility this afternoon or evening,” said the state weather bureau. Despite this, residents of La Union, Benguet, Ilocos Sur, and the southern portion of Abra were told to brace for moderate to heavy rains tonight until Friday evening, June 2. The enhanced southwest monsoon, locally known as “habagat,” will also continue to trigger wind gusts over Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Central Luzon, Metro Manila, CALABARZON, Bicol Region, MIMAROPA, Western Visayas, Northern in the next 24-hour period.
