SIXTEEN years separate Manny Pacquiao and Mario Barrios, the guy he’s looking to take the World Boxing Council welterweight belt from.

Having not fought in four years, Pacquiao , the world’s only eight-division champ, came out of retirement to challenge Barrios at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on July 19.Barrios was born in 1995, the same year Pacquiao started his professional career. The Filipino boxing great, who was recently inducted to the Boxing Hall of Fame, reiterated that he’s not worried about fighting at 46 and taking on the American Barrios, a champion in his prime. This isn’t his first rodeo, after all.

“When I fought Thurman, he was 29 years old, he’s taller than me, 29 wins, 22 knockouts, no loss,” said Pacquiao in an interview with George Janko’s podcast.“It is up to God. I give my trust to the Lord. I just want to sacrifice myself in training and do the things.”Why Barrios when he could just cherry-pick a relatively weaker opponent for his comeback fight?Pacquiao said he’s always about beating the best.“He’s a champion in 147 in my division, so I’m going to challenge him,” he said.
