Authorities intercepted a large shipment of smuggled cigarettes worth P9.4 million in Lanao del Sur, Philippines, leading to the arrest of two individuals. The police and military conducted a joint checkpoint operation where a van was flagged down and found to be carrying 570 master cases of undocumented cigarettes. The suspects, identified as alias Al and alias Nor, were apprehended and will face charges under the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.
AUTHORITIES intercepted some P9.4 million worth of smuggled cigarettes and arrested two people in a joint law enforcement operation in Lanao del Sur, the police said Thursday, January 30, 2025. The Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region said that alias Al and alias Nor were arrested on Wednesday, January 29, in Piksan village, Calanogas, Lanao del Sur.
The police said seized from Al and Nor were 570 master cases of assorted undocumented cigarettes worth P9,450,000. The police said Al and Nor were traveling from the town of Picong, Lanao del Sur, en route to Marawi City when the joint police and soldiers intercepted them.The police said charges for violation of Republic Act 10863, otherwise known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.
