P35.7 B earmarked for tourism dev’t in 2021
According to President Duterte, the government recognizes the tourism industry creates job opportunities and will further “harness” such potential next year.“The employment generation potential of the tourism sector is well acknowledged — and will be harnessed,” Duterte said in a recent budget message to Congress.
The tourism industry is one of the sectors hardest hit by the coronavirus pandemic as the country and other nations enforced travel restrictions to avoid the spread of the illness. The government has gradually eased the tourism restrictions in the larger part of the country in a bid to revitalize the sluggish economy and employment opportunities.
