TAWI-TAWI — Authorities from various law enforcement agencies here intercepted over P1 million worth of smuggled cigarettes in Barangay Lamion, Bongao in this province on Saturday.

Acting on a tip from concerned citizens, police personnel on board Philippine National Police's SOU Watercraft swooped down to a coastal area in Barangay Lamion where cases of cigarettes were being unloaded from a motorized boat, known locally as 'jungkong.'The raiding police personnel discovered a stockpile of smuggled cigarettes in a small warehouse.The individuals responsible for the smuggling and the warehouse owner and caretakers were not present during the raid.

Eighty-five master cases and 163 reams of various brands of illegal cigarettes worth P1,236,160 were accounted for in an immediate inventory witnessed by two barangay councilors.The seized cigarettes were transported to the 1st TTPMFC Headquarters at Camp Alejandro Suarez in Bongao for documentation. They will be handed over to the Bureau of Customs – Tawi-Tawi for appropriate action and disposal.
