The city said Thunder Bay's outdoor rinks are set to reopen on Friday, after being closed earlier this week due to a prolonged period of warm weather.
City officials said the warm temperatures had softened the ice, even leading to some of the rinks starting to melt. Lights had been turned off at the rinks, with change rooms locked and people were urged to stay off the ice. "As soon as the temperatures dropped our crews started working to repair the ice surfaces,” city parks and open spaces manager Cory Halvorsen said in a news release.
"We are happy that the weather cooperated and that we were able to get the rinks open again for people to enjoy on the long weekend.”
