The fire was reported near Milligan Lake, roughly 55 km west of Vanderhoof.

A wildfire near Milligan Lake, roughly 55 km west of Vanderhoof, was out of control, as of Tuesday afternoon.

The fire was reported early Monday afternoon and has grown rapidly, according to information released by the BC Wildfire Service. Water tankers and initial attack crews started combating the fire Monday afternoon. “Due to the hot dry conditions, aggressive fire activity was observed and with a wind shift in the early morning the fire has grown to an estimated 41 hectares in size,” a statement released by the BC Wildfire Service said. “Crews worked overnight and have made significant progress over the last 24 hours in establishing fire guards with heavy equipment and helicopter bucketing support. Today, a sustained action unit crew has been assigned to support existing initial attack crew resources.

Three helicopters, numerous pieces of heavy equipment and 25 fire fighters were combating the blaze on Tuesday. “Although there has been significant progress, hot and dry conditions well above seasonal are forecasted to continue,” the BC Wildfire Service statement said. “Residents in the vicinity of active wildfires are encouraged to keep up-to-date on the current wildfire situation and to sign up for emergency alerts with their local government or regional district.”
