According to the B.C. Conservation Officer Service, the attack occurred at 10:15 a.m. during the Burnaby Blooms Festival at Deer Lake Park.

“The child was bitten by the coyote, which stayed in the area until it was chased away by her parents,” the statement read. “The girl was taken to hospital with minor injuries.”

Four conservation officers and officers from the RCMP detachment responded but were unable to locate the animal. “We cannot stress enough the importance of not feeding dangerous wildlife and will take enforcement action as warranted,” the BCCOS said.This is the second coyote attack on a child in Metro Vancouver in the past week.

Last Wednesday, BCCOS officers tracked and killed a coyote that had attacked a two-year-old child in Lions Park, Port Coquitlam at around 8 p.m. The child was also hospitalized with minor injuries.The public can report a coyote sighting or problematic feeding at the RAPP line by calling 1-877-952-7277 or making a report online.
