OREX SAI and Globe Telecom are collaborating on a demonstration experiment for Open RAN in the Philippines, supported by the Japan Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications. This initiative aims to evaluate the feasibility and performance of Open RAN solutions within Globe's network infrastructure.
OREX SAI , INC. ( OREX SAI ) and Globe Telecom , Inc. (Globe) have announced a partnership to collaborate on a demonstration experiment for Open RAN in the Philippines . This initiative is part of the Japan Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications’ (MIC) program, “FY2024 Contract for conducting demonstration experiment in preparation for Open RAN field trial in the Philippines .
” Japan is a strong supporter of Open RAN, an open radio access network designed to allow interconnection between equipment and systems from multiple vendors. Open RAN offers new possibilities by enabling diverse suppliers to contribute to the network’s innovation and optimization, potentially enhancing and fostering more dynamic, scalable, and cost-efficient network environments. Through the demonstration experiment, Globe will assess the feasibility and performance of Open RAN solutions and understand the integration process within its current network infrastructure. This exploration will provide valuable insights into how Open RAN could potentially play a role in Globe’s future network development.\Joel Agustin, Globe’s Head of Service Planning and Engineering, stated, “The need for connectivity has been constantly increasing as the digital shift accelerates, fueling customer demand. As an innovation leader, Globe is taking this key step forward in exploring the potential of Open RAN, which is now in use in other tech-forward countries.” Agustin emphasized that Globe’s participation in this project is focused on gaining deeper insights and evaluating how Open RAN technology aligns with Globe’s future needs. Through the demonstration, Globe aims to contribute to the global conversation about Open RAN, learning from the trial outcomes to inform future decisions on network evolution and infrastructure planning.\Sadayuki Abeta, Chief Technology Officer at OREX SAI and Chief Open RAN Strategist at NTT DOCOMO, expressed, “We have successfully evaluated the performance of Open RAN in various countries in Southeast Asia and are delighted to collaborate with Globe Telecom, a leading mobile operator in the Philippines, in the field of Open RAN. By leveraging cutting-edge Open RAN technology, we aim to contribute further to the innovation and success of Globe Telecom by delivering flexible, scalable and cost-effective connectivity solutions to meet the evolving needs of people and communities.” This initiative represents an exciting step in the journey to explore innovative network solutions. By engaging in this collaboration, Globe Telecom continues to assess and explore technologies that can potentially enhance its network capabilities in the future
