Stockbroker Ord Minnett has hired a new head of institutional research, as Malcolm Wood switches focus to strategy and asset allocation for the firm’s clients.Alastair Hunter, who will start as Ord Minnett’s head of institutional research on February 1, was Goldman Sachs’ local head of research for nearly a decade. He later went to Franklin Templeton and ran its large cap portfolio.
Malcolm Wood has been Ord’s head of institutional research and asset allocation, and will switch focus to the latter of the two with a wider brief in portfolio construction, the note said. He will continue to report to Morris.C Baillieu, which merged with Ord Minnett. He has also headed investment strategy for Bank of America and Morgan Stanley Wealth Management.
“Mal will also concentrate on our capability to advise ‘not for profit/philanthropy’ clients and is looking to lift his unpaid voluntary work with ICM, a charity serving ultra-poor in the Philippines,” Morris said in the note. “I am very appreciative of Mal’s work in the integration of ELCB/Ords over the past two years. Mal is one of our best thinkers and presenters, and we look forward to his further contribution to both retail and institutional clients.”
