CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro — Disaster response authorities issued an Orange Rainfall warning Sunday as hundreds of passengers and several rolling cargo vessels were left stranded on Saturday due to inclement weather.
Tropical Storm Aghon's rains and winds, flooding and landslides prompted the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council to cancel sea travel in and out of the province Sunday morning.Weather alerts from the NDRRMC issued at 8:44 a.m. indicate that Aghon lingered and made several landfalls over islands in central Philippines, where several areas have been placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1, including Oriental Mindoro .
'We are gathering the number of stranded individuals as we are providing food provisions for them. Last night, we accommodated six stranded people at the city port,' Escosora said, adding that most of the stranded passengers were from the Visayas and Mindanao.Although rivers in the province have yet to reach critical level, authorities already advised barangay officials, particularly in flood-prone areas, to closely monitor the situation. No evacuations have been reported so far.
