.SusanDelacourt: Why did pandemic rage destroy one premier but leave two others stronger than ever? via torontostar

Voters in Canada’s two largest provinces have amply rewarded the premiers who saw them through the pandemic. Politicians all over the country may be tempted to think this is a sign that COVID-19 rage is finally receding. But is that a mistake?

Jason Kenney, who will be formally replaced on Thursday, wasn’t so lucky. The departing Alberta premier didn’t survive long enough to face a verdict from the voters; his own party turned against him and is expected to install Danielle Smith as his successor when leadership ballots are counted this week.

Conservatives, under their brand new leader Pierre Poilievre, appear keen to keep the anger stoked, especially against Trudeau in particular and the progressive left in general. The Pollara public opinion firm is now tracking emotional volatility in the populace through something called a “rage index” .Canadians were slightly less cranky in September than they were in August

These results were also gathered before Trudeau’s government announced it was lifting most of the remaining COVID-19 vaccination mandates and restrictions. So it seems fair to assume the public mood may be even better as fall rolls around.
