A seller in Manila was scammed out of their tablet after a buyer posing as a delivery rider requested to book their own rider and then disappeared with the item. CCTV footage captured the incident, and the victim reported the scam to the authorities.

A scammer posing as a delivery rider swindled an individual selling a tablet online for P18,000.00 in Santa Ana, Manila. According to a report by Bam Alegre on GTV News Balitanghali last Friday, CCTV footage captured the scammer picking up the tablet. The victim, who identified himself as 'Jack,' said that on January 22, a buyer contacted him about purchasing the tablet listed online. They had a video call where they agreed on a price of P18,000.

The buyer then requested to book the delivery rider themselves and even showed Jack a driver's license supposedly belonging to their chosen rider. However, Jack was not paid upfront, as the buyer claimed they would send the payment once the rider retrieved the tablet. After the supposed rider left with the tablet, Jack received no payment. 'The suspect didn't chat with me much anymore. But I spoke with the rider, who said he would text me through his mobile number. I thought I was texting the rider, but it turned out to be the suspect. The rider told us that he thought we were the ones he was talking to, but it was actually the scammer,' Jack explained. All Jack had was the driver's license of the supposed delivery rider from Makati. He went to the barangay and spoke to a council member who claimed to know the delivery rider. When the council member called the supposed rider, he requested gas money to return the tablet. So, they sent P400 through online payment. However, no rider arrived, the tablet was gone, and they never received their gas money back. This raised suspicion, leading the council member to visit the rider's address in Makati the next day. 'During their investigation, they found out that the person in the picture on the license was not leaving the house. That's when they realized it was a scam. I asked, 'Did you see the person's face? Was the helmet removed when they gave you the ID?' He said no. I said, 'Maybe you've been scammed,' said Kagawad Jonjon Libao of Barangay Valenzuela, Makati City. 'The scammer used a picture of someone I know. When we visited the person I know, he said he wasn't leaving the house,' added Libao. Jack managed to speak with the real rider who owned the ID. Jack also reported the incident to the Manila Police District and the PNP Cybercrime Unit at Camp Crame, as he was blocked by the scammer buyer. 'I know you have many victims and I'm not the only one. But remember, even if we can't do anything about you, God will take care of you and what will happen to you,' Jack's message to the scammer
