The government is cracking down on drivers who prey on women, price gouge, or fail to turn on their meter.

One in five Brisbane taxi drivers have been found to be doing the wrong thing, including price gouging or negotiating fares.

Investigators surveyed about 1000 people, including those in night-life precincts such as Fortitude Valley. “If you’re found to be doing the wrong thing, you’ll be heavily penalised, and you may well lose your licence, because we want the safety of people to be guaranteed by drivers, particularly women late at night,” Bailey said on Sunday.
