An Alberta man has died following a collision during a snowmobile competition at B.C.’s Sun Peaks Resort.
The remainder of the competition, which started Friday and was to wrap up on Sunday, has been cancelled after the man’s death on Saturday. According to a resort spokesperson, the collision took place during a Western Canada Hillcross Association race, one of two that had been scheduled for the 2019 season.
First responders were brought in via air ambulance but the competitor did not survive, according to Kamloops RCMP. It remains unclear how the collision occurred, though it’s believed another driver was also involved. No further information has been provided by the resort and police are investigating the fatal collision.
