Canadians can thank Jody Wilson-Raybould for pointing out a serious problem in the Attorney-General’s Office, namely, that the job is too big for just one person.
I think it’s a safe bet that Canada’s consistent failure to crack down on tax havens, lobbyists, corporate donations and nepotism reflects the will of successive PMs — not AGs — to leave things as they are. Provincial governments operate weigh-scale and vehicle inspection stations to catch these problems. Also, mobile inspectors carry out random roadside checks often using mobile scales.
Last Saturday’s work shed light on the validity of the speculation tax, satellite families and the total squandering of our social benefits due to tax avoidance. Vancouver ports are shipping record amounts of coal, the dirtiest fuel of them all, to destinations throughout Asia where this resource will be burned to the detriment of areas that are already reeling from the effects of air pollution.
Accordingly, perhaps Victoria city council should sue the B.C. coal industry for damage to the planet’s environment.
