On Easter Sunday, Palace calls on Filipinos to 'love one another' amid COVID19 pandemic
MANILA--On the eve of Easter Sunday, Malacañang called on Filipinos to reflect on Jesus' call to "love one another," a message made more relevant amid the coronavirus pandemic, which has engulfed the world.
“ 'Love one another' was what the Redeemer had taught the Christian world, and this is the most fitting time that we embrace and practice this teaching, that even the non-Christians and the agnostics can relate. For it is only in loving one another can we protect each other from this scourge of a disease,'" Presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo said in a statement Saturday.
Panelo urged Filipinos, too, to thank God for "sparing the rest of humanity who will, like the phoenix, be reborn from ashes and build a new order of love and peace among mankind, coming from what it seems to be a spiritual cleansing that we are all undergoing.
The country has recorded 4,428 cases of COVID-19 with 247 deaths and 157 recoveries, the health department said earlier in the day. Worldwide, the dreaded disease has infected more than 1.5 million people, according to the World Health Organization.
