THE Office of the Ombudsman has suspended two Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) officials for abusing their authority.

MIAA acting general manager Cesar Chiong and acting assistant general manager Irene Montalbo were given preventive suspension without pay for not more than six months from Ombudsman Samuel Martires, after they were charged with Grave Abuse of Authority, Grave Misconduct and Conduct Prejudicial to the Best Interest of Service, due to the reassignment of 285 MIAA employees in less than a year.

'According to sworn statements by the reassigned personnel, they were neither 'informed of the reason for their reassignment' nor did they have any administrative complaints. In addition, the order wrote that Chiong abused his authority with his designation of Montalbo as assistant general manager for finance and administration, despite her unsatisfactory rating in 2020.
