The protest actions in Hong Kong have not deterred overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) from going to church and attending mass, according to the head of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines Episcopal Commission on Migrants and Itinerant People.

The protest actions in Hong Kong have not deterred overseas Filipino workers from going to church and attending mass, according to the head of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines Episcopal Commission on Migrants and Itinerant People.CBCP ECMI chairman Bishop Ruperto Santos said this just goes to show how strong the faith of OFWs in God was.

“This only shows their strong faith in God that in those trying and difficult times our OFWs still fulfil their Sunday obligations, trust Him and place their hope in God,” he said in an interview. The CBCP official was recently updated by Father Jay Flanders, one of the priests in Hong Kong, regarding the situation of OFWs there.

Based on the information Santos received, the mass schedules remained the same, and many of the faithful come, especially in the morning.“I was also informed that their employers are so concern with the welfare and safety of their household service workers that they are limiting their free time except going to Holy Masses,” added Santos. He thanked the employers for their compassionate gesture to OFWs.

Santos in turn reiterated their advice to OFWs to follow the instructions of the Department of Foreign Affairs consulate there.
