MANILA, Philippines: The result of a survey conducted by OCTA Research affirmed wide support for the government's defense of Philippine sovereignty, San Jose del Monte Rep. Florida 'Rida' Robes said.The poll showed that 77 percent of Filipinos were willing to fight for the country should there be war.Robes, a member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, said that she considered the survey as an 'affirmation' of the government's pivot to secure the nation.
'But this should not be viewed as a call to arms and an abandonment of the use of diplomatic means to resolve disputes,' the lawmaker said.House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez welcomed the survey results and acknowledged the regional differences.The highest percentage of those who said they were willing to fight for the flag was in Mindanao at 84 percent. It was followed by Balance Luzon at 79 percent, Metro Manila at 76 percent, and Visayas at 62 percent.
